YES! Brixham has offered a Young Volunteering programme to the young people of Brixham since 2005. They meet regularly to look for ways of strengthening and enriching our local community as well as building friendships and developing skills!

Since lockdown the Young Volunteers have continued to meet online to stay connected and recently begun to meet in socially distanced small groups to litter pick and help clean up Brixham!

Hannah Beaumont of YES commented; Thank you ever so much for the money donated towards the skip costs. We have really made a big change already to the abandoned land up in Furzeham and with this third skip, we will be able to move much of the soil and rubble left, enabling us to then design and plant what we think is suitable. The attached photo shows you the before and current state of the land.

When removing all the brambles, we have found some really unusual items such as; traffic cones, a sleeping bag, shoes, a portable DVD player, motorbike parts, wheels and an old sign post. We hope to use and repurpose as many of these items as possible in the community garden and have plans to include a homemade insect house, litter picking station, benches and more.
